College Jobs Are Getting More Competitive

Jobs for college students have become very important if they want to be able to afford the increasingly high costs. Many years ago when college was more affordable, fewer students needed jobs to get by. Now though, with so many students needing loans to pay for their tuition and other college expenses, the need for jobs has never been greater.

With the more college students that need financial aid comes more students who need jobs. These last couple of years though have been terrible for anyone looking for jobs and that is especially so for all students. Not only are there fewer jobs to choose from but also there is greater competition for those jobs.

It used to be that most any college student who wanted a job could get one. Between library jobs, cafeteria jobs, and retail jobs around town there were enough so that some type of job could always be found. Now though, students have to hope their job experience and other factors will be enough to get them hired ahead of the next guy. Gone are the days when you could just ask around and find an open job, no matter how little it pays.

College students always have had pressure to get good grades and graduate with a degree. Today’s students are having to deal with that and the added pressure of finding employment that might ultimately be the difference between them continuing or having to drop out. Even if you are a student that is lucky enough to get a loan, you need to have some way to pay your additional expenses and to make payments on the loan.

For many, if a job cannot be found, it may mean that they will have to drop out of school. If that happens, they will just be back home looking for another job that will also be hard to find. This is the first young generation in many years that has had to face such a difficult job environment and it is surely going to impact many of their lives for years to come.
